I found some odd little lizard-type creatures in my backyard, what are they?

It is most likely a baby salamander. If I were you I would go ahead and let him go since he is wild. You can pick up a firebelly salamander at your local pet store for around $5. Either way you will have to make sure you have an aquarium, filter system, and food.
