Was Robert Pattinson the right person for the role of Edward Cullen?

I know that ALOT of people hate him, and dont think that he played the part very well, and i also know that some people didnt think he was right for the role but then were pleased with his acting. Whatd you think? Do you think that he will do good in New Moon?
